January 2007
By the third week, things had
slowed a bit, and then I read a review of one gamers experience in buying
The Burning Crusade upgrade for Blizzard's World of Warcraft's (WoW)
"massive multiplayer on-line role-playing game" (MMOLRPG). That
inspired me to download a 10-day free trial of the original game (3.6 GB, 26
hours over the DSL link!)
I had not been much of a gamer before, but this was captivating. I played many hours every day and by the end of our stay had my Dwarf Hunter (Rumpletoe) to level 8. Not sure where this is going to lead...? |
There is a lighthouse on the
point at the "knee" of Cape San Blas, and the beach there is different than
at most of the surrounding area. Storm-battered tree-trunks litter the
shore, and in many places, the palm tree and brush line is much closer to
the water. (See photo below.)
We found this "shell bush" and several like it on a walk east of the point one fine, sunny, 70-degree day. It was so nice that day, and the beach so attractive that Joyce decided to keep right on walking. 3.8 miles back to our rented house on Gulf Pines Drive! |
Michael, one of the guys that
came by to fix our water heater was a wealth of experience regarding local
points-of-interest.
We had seen what we thought were pretty nice
sunsets from the beach near our house on So one evening we timed our arrival at his suggested location just right to catch the 6:14 EST sunset. Well, sunsets are nice anywhere, but seems to me just being able to catch it from "our" beach, right across the road, has some value also. Can't hardly see it, but that structure at left center is a drifted-over board-walk/stairs from some earlier day. |
Michael also told us about three
Eagle's nests in the area. One was described to be on the Cape San Blas
point, a short distance west of the light house.
We found it on a walk several days later. Larger image here. |
