Dorothy visiting us in Johnson City.  I think I have this in the right year.  It is one of Joyce's negatives found in our wooden negative box, therefore not cataloged by year in the negative notebook. The negative envelope has the notation "Joyce's neg 10/91"
Dorothy would have taken this family photo at the same time. My "front-yard Harley photo" was also adjacent on the same negative strip and it was new in Sep 1991.

The theme of the summer 1991 bike trip was again related to pioneer trails.  The goal here was to partially follow the route of, and learn more about the Donner Party's ill-fated journey of 1846-47.

This was the longest bike trip of them all: 30 days and 9465 miles. Route shown at left.

Besides the Donner Party route between Salt Lake City, UT and Sacramento, CA, highlights included Hwy-1 along the Pacific coast, Redwood Forests, Glacier NP, Big Horn Mountains, and the Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota.  The transcribed trip log for the trip is available here

Except for the the few included here, photos from the bike trip will be found in the May '90 to Dec '92 loose-leaf photo notebook.

The rock in this photo at right formed the end and fireplace for the Murphy cabin at the east end of Donner Lake

If only they could have made it this far!

The site of this photo is 7000' Donner Pass, only five miles beyond the poorly constructed cabins and lean-tos where November snow storms stopped the emigrants progress and forced them to spend the winter at the far end of the lake.

The moustache lasted just a few more days than the bike trip did. .
1991 Christmas Letter
Except for a future task of providing more detail and photos for the "Donner Party Theme" motorcycle trip taken during the summer, the 1991 page is considered done.  July 2011.
